Minister Corbell launches Draft Planning Strategy

The ACT Planning Minister, Simon Corbell has released a Draft of the ACT Government’s Planning Strategy.

“The Draft ACT Planning Strategy builds on the outcomes from the 2004 Canberra Spatial Plan and responds to the changes in the Australian Capital Territory’s  economic, demographic and environmental circumstances as well as the community’s values.

The strategies set out in the document are intended to give direction and the seven principles to give guidance for implementation, on:

  • where urban intensification should occur
  • opportunities for greenfield development that can make better use of existing urban infrastructure
  • creating more sustainable transport options
  • how to improve the urban quality and liveability of Canberra
  • improving the Territory’s resilience and capacity to cope with change
  • taking a key role in a more sustainable and prosperous region.

The release of the Draft ACT Planning Strategy follows on closely from the Draft Transport for Canberra document released a week earlier, and the ACT Sustainable Energy Policy released several weeks ago. Feedback is being sought on the two draft policies, and can be provided at the ACT Government’s Time to Talk engagement website. This site also has links to the draft plans and background documentation.

This is a fantastic opportunity to ‘have your say’ on these two policies while they are still currently in draft form.
