Capital to Capital - Washington DC students seek learnings from Canberra's renewables industry

RDA ACT - SERREE continued their series of international engagement activities last week, facilitating a multi-site tour of regional renewable energy facilities for a group visiting from Washington DC.

MBA Capstone Project students from Georgetown University visited Canberra to assess a model for public-private partnerships centred around renewable energy among local/national governments, energy companies, NGO’s, investment institutions, and startups. Their assessment will be used to create a model to replicate sustainable and economically viable renewable energy infrastructure projects in the U.S.

The group had the opportunity to visit and speak with representatives from Impact Investment Group’s Mount Majura Solar Farm, Icon Water’s Googong Mini-Hydro, Riverview Group’s The Link at Ginninderry, and the Australian National University’s Big Dish.

RDA ACT – SERREE also provided the students with links into the region’s renewable energy industry to assist them with gathering information on the requirements for successful partnerships between governments and private companies, and whether these models can be replicated in the U.S.

This renewable energy site tour has added to a growing list of international engagement activities recently facilitated by RDA ACT – SERREE, including:

Australia-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee on behalf of the Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade

APEC Expert Group on Energy Data and Analysis (EGEDA) on behalf of the Department of the Environment and Energy

Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka delegation on behalf of the Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade

Colombian delegation on behalf of Austrade

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on behalf of Austrade

RDA ACT - SERREE would like to thank the ANU Solar Thermal Group, Ginninderry, Icon Water, and Impact Investment Group for offering their time and expertise to host site visits.

We would also like to acknowledge the ACT Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate for their support with RDA ACT - SERREE’s renewable energy industry development initiatives.
