ACT Labor to work with Commonwealth Government on Gungahlin Smart Work Hub

Regional Development Australia ACT introduced this inititiave to ACT Labor earlier this year and is excited that it is now a priority project for them if re-elected.

The ACT Labor Government will seek to partner with the Commonwealth Government to establish a Smart Work Hub in the Gungahlin Town Centre if re-elected.

ACT Labor will investigate the possibility of the Commonwealth Government being an anchor tenant to the Smart Work Hub, potentially co-locating employees from many different departments and agencies in the one location.

The Smart Work Hub would include access to high speed NBN internet, meeting rooms, individual or group work spaces and kitchens. A re-elected ACT Labor Government will provide in kind support and investigate a small pilot from within its Winyu House building in Gungahlin.

While ACT Labor welcomes the Commonwealth Government’s pre-election commitment to move an agency to Gungahlin, more can be done to help Gungahlin residents with their work-life balance.

A study released last year by Regional Development Australia and the University of Canberra showed the smart work model is a system the ACT can embrace.

With new technology and the ACT’s strong knowledge-based economy, now is the time to act.

ACT Labor has created more than 1,000 jobs in the Gungahlin Town Centre over the past five years, through significant investments in Gungahlin College, CIT, Gungahlin Leisure Centre, Gungahlin Community Health Centre and Winyu

ACT Labor has also funded significant investments in road, health and transport infrastructure in Gungahlin to keep the Canberra we love, and make it better.
