Canberra Airport Freight Hub

RDA ACT is working with surrounding RDA regions, Canberra Airport and Pakfresh to facilitate a supply chain of the region's agricultural produce into the Canberra Freight Hub to be exported to global markets.

Global produce destinations include Singapore, Qatar and beyond, with more expected to open up as additional international carriers access the Canberra International Airport.

The RDA network is well placed to facilitate economic development opportunities organically, including, in the first instance, RDA ACT, RDA Central West, RDA Riverina, RDA Far South Coast and RDA Southern Inland.

Fresh Canberra produce will soon be winging its way to the world

Canberra Airport has announced a new partnership aiming to put the best ACT produce on plates around the world.

The airport will be teaming-up with Pak Fresh, a South Australian freight company specialising in the export of premium but perishable produce such as fish and meat.

Canberra Airport managing director Stephen Byron said the airport had long held plans to act as a freight hub for businesses in the capital.

“We have been working to attract freight handlers who can help producers throughout the ACT, South Coast, Riverina and the Murray-Darling Basin, showcase the premium products that grow here and manage the exportation process,” he said.

Working with Pak Fresh would help link Canberra's fresh food and wine with the rest of the world, he said.

"This is a very significant announcement for us," he said.

"When we started 20 years ago, establishing Canberra's freight operation was a major goal.

"Pak Fresh are a company that knows what they are doing - a freight exporter that is a link between the goods, the aeroplane and the rest of the world."

Pak Fresh started working with primary producers in South Australia, and exports the state's fresh produce to locations such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai and Qatar.

Managing director Nathan Bevan said he was excited to do the same for the ACT's top-notch food and wine scene.

"This region has great products, outstanding primary producers and freight forwarders, along with a strong hub in Canberra Airport," he said.

"Together we will get the best food from the region on plates around the world and build the region's global profile to match the quality of the products."
