Canberra businesses can now swap to LED light bulbs for free

Canberra businesses are now able to sign up to upgrade their light bulbs to LED for free in a territory-wide push to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This initiative follows on from the program that installed more than one million energy saving items in 75,000 Canberra homes, which came to an end last year.

The program is part of the ACT government’s Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme, which is funded by the electricity retailers.

ACT Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury said it would help save approximately 40,000 tonnes of polluting emissions in 2017.

“This initiative will allow businesses to reduce their energy consumption, reduce lighting energy bills by up to 60 per cent and improve the quality and lifespan of their light globes” Mr Rattenbury said.

ActewAGL is the first energy retailer to start offering lighting upgrades for businesses through its ‘Big Business Light Switch’ campaign. Other retailers are expected to follow in the coming months.
