Lonely Planet, the leading global travel authority has today named Canberra third in the world’s Top 10 Cities for 2018 in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2018 - ranking higher than any Australian city has ever been ranked before in the travel publisher’s annual Top 10 Best in Travel lists.

This fantastic result is a direct reflection of the incredible experiences being delivered by the whole industry in the ACT.

Best in Travel 2018 is Lonely Planet’s annual agenda-setting collection of the world’s hottest destinations, experiences and trends for each upcoming year. Each year a panel of Lonely Planet’s travel experts contribute to the Best in Travel guide, compiling a list of the world’s most travel-worthy locations for the year ahead, scoring each destination on topicality, excitement and ‘x-factor’. Best in Travel 2018 showcases some of the world’s most appealing, interesting and diverse destinations.

According to Lonely Planet’s Chris Zeiher, author of the Canberra chapter in Best in Travel 2018 and Director of Sales and Marketing (Asia Pacific), “Criminally overlooked Canberra packs a big punch for such a small city. National treasures are found round almost every corner and exciting new boutique precincts have emerged, bulging with gastronomic highlights and cultural must-dos.”

“Recent revitalisation efforts have given Canberra a new lease of life, establishing a truly contemporary and unique sense of style, with boutique precincts emerging throughout the city, bursting with cool bars, cafes and restaurants. With endless family-friendly and adventurous activities, opportunities to connect with nature or indulge in a range of gastronomic delights, along with a smorgasbord of cultural, artistic and sporting events, Canberra should be on everybody’s 2018 travel wish list,” Zeiher said.
