Melbourne Skyfarm

Over the coursse of the next 6 months we will feature projects and key speakers who will be participating in next years Food in the Capital event. The first of these is Melbourne Skyfarm.

Melbourne Skyfarm is a collaboration between three Melbourne based sustainability companies, to transform a 2000 square metre rooftop car park into an urban farm and environmental oasis in the heart of the city. Located in Melbourne's emerging Seafarer's precinct, Melbourne Skyfarm directly overlooks the Yarra River and Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre.

When complete, visitors will be able to tour the working farm, visit the orchard, sample rooftop honey, dine at the sustainable café, have a drink on the deck, hire unique event spaces, attend classes at the environmental education centre or enjoy the children's playground. The venue is expected to open in late 2020.

Rooftop Farm

Melbourne Skyfarm will feature an innovative, water-efficient, pop-up farm designed and manufactured in Melbourne by urban farming company BiofiltaThe farm will grow over 5 tonnes of fresh produce per annum, with a large proportion of produce being donated to Melbourne food charities as well as being used in the Melbourne Skyfarm cafe kitchen.

Environmental Education

Melbourne Skyfarm will feature high-tech classrooms to educate primary, secondary and tertiary students, community groups, businesses and future leaders about our natural world, the challenges it is facing and the rapidly growing field of sustainable solutions to these challenges.
