Merry Christmas

It has been a pleasure to work with so many people within the broader Canberra Region throughout the year.  Representatives of business and industry, governments, the universities, community members and other RDAs all contribute to making our business ecosystem and communities strong, bold and innovative.

As RDAs move into a bright new (funded) future for 2018, we look forward to continuing to work with you to progress regional economic development initiatives that continue to contribute by bringing new investment into the region, more jobs, and innovative business growth and diversity opportunities.

The RDA ACT office will be closed from cob, Friday 23 December, and re-opening 8 January 2018.

What's happening in 2018?

Apropos the 2016 Independent RDA Review, RDA Committees are to play an important role in delivering the Australian Government’s objective of growing strong and confident regions.

RDAs are to operate under a new approach to regional development that sharpens focus on initiatives that grow local economies, promote opportunities, attract investment and build capacity and confidence.

At the current time, a number of significant changes are being rolled-out for RDAs:

  • New Funding Agreements for all RDA Committees are currently being signed to extend the RDA program for an additional three years - from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2020.
  • The national RDA network will operate under a new Charter that takes Committees beyond their current planning role and into a more active and facilitative role, focusing on attracting investment for their regions, driving economic growth and creating local jobs.
  • RDA Chair positions have been advertised and the Acting Minister for Regional Development is currently reviewing applications with new appointment announcements expected in coming months.
  • RDA Committee memberships have been extended to 30 June 2018, with in-coming Chairs to have carriage of determining new memberships.
  • A Director of Regional Development role is being created in each RDA Committee to ensure there is a senior staff member with a focus on delivering the outcomes required under the new Charter.

RDA ACT looks forward to implementing the objectives of the new Charter, and progressing a dynamic and purposeful future for the ACT region.
